What really bugs me about Obama giving the commencement address at Notre Dame is not the fact that he’s speaking on Notre Dame’s campus, but the fact that he’s being honored.
Instead of a commencement address, if he was invited to speak by a student group (not by the administration) I would be fine AS LONG AS the Catholic administration owned up to its responsbility of teaching the student body on Catholic teaching by giving talks and interviews, and using campus newspapers, faculty (I know, impossible), letters and every other mouthpiece available to it to BLAST Obama over his pro-abortion anti-life policies and to educate the student body about abortion and the Catholic teaching on life.
Instead, nearly every time a pro-abortion speaker is invited by a major Catholic university he or she is either given an award by the administration or the administration stands idly by stating that they must tolerate the speaker because they respect free speach. I’m all for free speach but why don’t the cowards in the administration at the main stream Catholic universities stand up for the unborn and for the Church and give the Catholic view? The answer is that they are cowards and they want to be seen as enlightened intellectuals, certainly not pro-life zeolots. Most of our main stream Catholic universities are a disgrace to Christ’s call to stand with and defend the most defenseless.
