The dangerous insanity that has gripped America with the Obama presidency is illustrated nicely with the following articles in today’s WSJ:
1) Obama Made a Rash Decision on Gitmo – where back to the old way of doing things where terrorists won’t even be questioned . By the way has anyone actually read the Geneva conventions for treatment of prisoners of war? I have. It’s a hopelessly idealistic read and is intended for to be applied to a UNIFORMED organized enemy. For instance one of the conventions state:
No physical or mental torture, nor any other form of coercion, may be inflicted on prisoners of war to secure from them information of any kind whatever. Prisoners of war who refuse to answer may not be threatened, insulted, or exposed to any unpleasant or disadvantageous treatment of any kind.
Notice it prohibits not only torture (whatever that means) but “any other form of coercion” and even “unpleasant” treatment. It forbids treatment that you would routinely see in basic training, hazing, or high school football practice. I gather it prohibits looking cross-eyed at a terrorist as that would be unpleasant. So it’s ok to do it to your own law abiding citizens, but don’t do it to terrorists who you have caught on the field of battle and want to destroy you. And by the way, you can’t call them names, it says so right there.
Basically, you can’t ask them ANY questions if they say they don’t want to be asked. Now how EXACTLY are we going to prevent the next 911? This is, unbelievably, what the United States people voted for.
2) Fan and Fred’s Lunch Tab Another scary article about how Fannie and Freddie are still losing money and need another $50 bill. This is par for the course and will be repeated by numerous others in the coming months. There’s no shock at the numbers any longer. I can’t for the life of me figure out how we’re going to avoid runaway inflation
3) The Obama White House May Be a Crowded Mess
Karl Rove quite rightly points out that Obama has become the first White House to put full time political operatives in the White House. Oh joy – what a uniting thing to do.
That’s only 3 – I can give you tons others. We’re in it deep….
