I strongly support Roe v. Wade. ….. I would make sure that the people I sent to be nominated for the Supreme Court shared my values; and understood that there is a right to privacy in the United States Constitution. That’s why I led the fight to defeat Bork, Roberts Alito, and Thomas.
Joe Biden, Pro-Abortion Catholic VP Candidate for Prez
The Democrats are playing up the Scranton, PA connection of Joe Biden, Obama’s VP choice. But Joe Biden, a Senator from Delaware, was 10 years old when he left Scranton. Before the VP choice, I never heard of Biden’s connection with Scranton. Why now? I’m guessing it’s not Delware given it’s paltry electoral college value, but certainly because Obama needs (1) Pennsylvania, and (2) working class (and mostly white) Catholics.
Yes, Scranton is a filled with people who in the strong Democrat tradition, stand up for the little guy. But traditionally they have done so without forgetting the most helpless among us, the unborn baby.
Few realize that while Scranton, PA is a hotbed of blue collar (and mostly Catholic) Democrats it is also has a proud history of standing up for the unborn and rejecting pro-abortion Democrats. Bob Casey, the notorious (in Democrat circles) pro-life former Democrat governor of Pennsylvania hailed from Scranton. In 1984, pro-lifers in Scranton embarrassed Geraldine Ferraro, another pro-abortion Catholic when she and Walter Mondale used Scranton as a launching pad for their Democrat campaign. Bishop Timlin and others stood up then:
Ferraro’s reception in Scranton, Pa., an area in which roughly one-third of the population is Catholic and the pro-life movement is strong, was far less gentle. Worried about possible violence, Scranton police substituted plainclothes officers for volunteer drivers in the Ferraro motorcade, and a state police helicopter monitored the route. She faced bitter signs at her speech site in a downtown mall. FERRARO—A CATHOLIC JUDAS, read one. I’M GLAD FERRARO WASN’T MY MOTHER, said another, held by a five-year-old boy.
Will the Scranton Bishop and other Catholics stand up again and call him on his cynicism and his weakness in failing to stand up for the unborn?
Biden is an unabashed and stalwart supporter of the right to kill babies in the womb. He is anathema to the Catholic tradition of upholding the littlest among us. His ethical roots are definitely NOT in Scranton.
